Background to Tamil Film-Making in Singapore
While this list is not comprehensive in listing out the number of films that have been produced
locally and describing the growth of the film industry, it aims to showcase the different genres
of Tamil films that have been worked on in Singapore

My Magic - first Tamil language drama film in Singapore (2008)
Directed by Eric Khoo and produced by Zhao Wei Films in association with
Infinite Frameworks.
My Magic was also the first Singapore film to be nominated for the top award for
film at the Cannes Film Festival. It was also submitted for the Academy Awards for
“Best Foreign Language Film” in 2009.

Gurushetram – 24 Hours of Anger: first Singaporean full-length Tamil Crime-Thriller
film (2010)
Directed by T. T. Dhavamani and produced by Blue River Pictures in collaboration
with the Singapore Film Commission.
The film was distributed in Singapore by Golden Village Pictures and had a theatrical
release in India as Singayil Gurushetram in 2011.

Vishal Daryanomel (2017)
The film features three poems written by N Rengarajan, a man who is both a
construction worker and a dedicated poet.
The poems, explore the themes of loss, longing and sacrifice from the perspective of a
migrant worker.
The documentary was selected under the Citizen Cinema section of FreedomFilmFest
2017.
