Armored Saint Count's Vamp'd Las Vegas

By Steven Troy Photos by Leah Burlington

Metal rules. It really does. Being as I'm a musician that specializes in that genre, you may think I'm biased, but I'm really not. I'm pretty well rounded, listen to a lot of different stuff, mostly Rock, some Jazz... NOT Ghost, honey... but I'm Metal, thru and thru, make no mistake. And I'm an OG, got in on the ground floor. I was just a wee tyke when Sabbath started leading us down that dark path, and was in on Priest, Maiden, and Rush before most people knew who they were. I started young. So, it's no surprise that I'm kinda partial to the old school stuff, and ARMORED SAINT is definitely that! I heard their March of the Saint album when it first came out and dug them ever since. They rolled into Vamp'd recently and burned it down! They brought some new-school with them, ACT OF DEFIANCE, a super group of sorts, with ex Megadeth alumni Shawn Drover on drums, and super shredder Chris Broderick on guitar. Bassist Matt Bachand was the guitar player in Shadows Fall, and vocalist Henry Derek was in a couple cool things, as well. I saw them once before, was not too sure about the vocals, so, I gave it a second chance, watched and listened a bit more, and got a bit of a groove goin'. To say they can kick some ass would be an understatement.
