On October 1st the Norwegian Pearl set sail from San Pedro, Los Angeles, CA for its first West Coast, Monsters of Rock Cruise (MORC), aka Monsterwood, with approximately 3000 rockers on board, with a host of about 35 bands performing on the high seas for four days.

The ship departed after two nights of pre-parties on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA with some of the original bands of the Cathouse, whom were celebrating their 30 year anniversary. Riki Rachtman and Taime Downes of Faster Pussycat organized the events before and after the cruise. In addition, to many other great bands from the 80’s.

The Norwegian Pearl ported in the Catalina Islands and Ensenada, Mexico and spent a full day at sea in some rocky waters, which made it a little challenging for them at times. The musical performances started in the late morning and continued into the wee hours, rocking out in various venues aboard and on the pool deck.

On the Monsters of Rock Cruise West (Monsterwood) there were many epic performances by so many talented bands. The Cathouse Hookers Ball in the Bliss Room was supposed to kick off the first nights events but due to missing equipment the show was prohibited and the bands tried to make the best of a bad situation. Ace Von Johnson, Riki Rachtman, Danny and Chad played five songs for the crowd and had fun performing. They are a great group of guys and give them much respect.

The Atomic Punks who are a Van Halen Tribute Band performed on the Pool Deck with bassist Joe Lester and completely rocked the stage and the crowd was loving the vibe. They had great showmanship. This was my first time seeing them perform and I thought they nailed it.
