Tracii Guns: LA Guns Debut Album Tour@Count's Vampd 4-16-16

By: Leah Burlington

Tracii Guns is a busy man these days. He has so many projects, bands, and appearances then most of the rockers we grew up listening too. He formed 80's glam metal band LA Guns in 1983. After some years of line- up changes and singers, including Axl Rose and Paul Black, Phil Lewis is best known for being the singer of LA Guns as we know them. The band recorded their debut album that was released in 1988 on Vertigo Records charting at number 50 on the Billboard 200. This album spawned MTV hits, "No Mercy", "Sex Action", "One More Reason", and "Electric Gypsy." This was the time of LA guns and glam/sleaze metal. You couldn't watch MTV without seeing LA Guns all the time. That was the year that I saw LA Guns open for Def Leppard on the Hysteria tour and it was an amazing show!

Forward to 2016 and this humble and down to earth guitarist keeps himself busy by making appearances in Las Vegas' Raiding the Rock Vault, the number 1 show on the Vegas strip at the Tropicana, with the band Gunzo, (with Rudy Sarzo) League of Gentlemen, and now he is on tour playing the entire 1988 debut LA Guns album with some extra's thrown in for good measure.

This tour line up consists of Tracii Guns (guitars), Michael O'mara(Vocals), Johnny Martin(Bass) and Shane Fitzgibbon (drums). Shane has played with Tracii on more than a few of the shows I have seen with them at Vampd the last few years. They came to Vampd in Vegas, as the club is usually on Tracii's itinerary whenever he does a tour. Does he love this venue? I would say yes.

I made sure to get up in front of the master of rock guitar himself so I could get some sweet shots of Tracii. He is one of my favorite guitarists to watch and shoot as well as one of my fave Rock Stars I have ever met. He is a mean guitarist who doesn't even think he's as good as he is and seems like a shredder from another planet. The dude is very chill until he gets onstage and then he's a force to be reckoned with. With his gorgeous black Dean Flying V, he took the stage with fire in his eyes as he stomped up the stage and raged with flaming solo work throughout the entire set. His new singer Michael O'Mara, (who also fronted Gunzo after Keith St, John left), is known for his work with several tribute bands before Tracii scooped him up to sing for these two bands. Michael is a killer singer with the swagger of Robert Plant with the killer pipes to boot. Guns brought in Johnny Martin on bass who looks like a Ramone, with his bass guitar swung way low, but played with Adlers Appetite. Drummer Shane Fitzgibbon rounds out this band as the happiest drummer in the world. Seriously, I have never seen a drummer have so much fun playing as this cat does.

The band ripped and tore through the whole LA Guns debut album, not in exact order, "No Mercy", "Sex Action", "Electric Gypsy", "One Way Ticket", "Shoot for Thrills", "Down in the City", "One More Reason", "Hollywood Tease", "Nothing to Lose", and "Over the Edge." (Off Hollywood Vampires) They did a killer rendition of Montrose's "Rock Candy" and then two of Guns hits off of "Cocked and Loaded", "Ballad of Jayne" with "Rip and Tear "as the encore.

This show was a sonic blast as the band melted our faces off! If they come to a town near you, go see this show!!!
