Sin City Presents Magazine May 2016 Volume 3 Issue 5 - Page 42

Vivian Campbell looked like he was feeling great even with his long bout with Cancer, he was looking healthy and fit and the entire night he was just shredding on every solo with perfection, showing the fans that he is still in the game and doing well. Andrew Freeman’s voice was better than ever, even with doing six shows a week at the Vegas’ own “Raiding the Rock Vault” for the last three years, which should take a toll, but it doesn’t phase this singer one bit. It has just made him stronger. Andrew has been very emotional singing some of the songs since Jimmy passed and that one very emotional song that they dedicated to Bain was “Starmaker.” You can see Bain meant a lot to these guys as he wasn’t only a huge part of the song writing, he was a great friend to all these guys for years. They loved playing together again as the first Dio band and it was a shame to lose him before he even got to really play with them on any of the new music live. He would have loved it.

Vinnie Appice as always, is one of the best drummers ever. Being the back beat of Sabbath and Dio, Vinnie is a legend in his own right. He is also having a great time with these guys onstage and off. He had a big grin on his face most of the show.

They had bassist Phil Soussan from Ozzy days, fill in on this show. No clue for how long but he was a perfect choice as he also played with Dio and has the perfect low end sound for this band. He also fills in at Rock Vault. He fit in perfect!

The last guy is one of the greatest prog/rock/metal keyboardists out there bar none. He plays with wife Lana Lane and also the Rocket Scientists, who I saw one time, and they were stunning. He has played with Vinnie and Phil before so he also fits right into this band. He played all the great parts that many bands miss when they pay tribute to Dio, like the beginning of “Rainbow in the Dark” or “Egypt/The Chains Were On.” You can’t play a Dio tribute without those key parts. He played that music with passion and it was pure genius.

The whole show was off the charts! The band was tight as could be and Andrew had fun with the crowd getting them all worked up and head banging to the music. This was one of those shows that you will never forget and are thrilled that you got to see. Last in Line is truly an epic band and the news songs meld well along with the older Dio songs. It was truly “Magic.”
