SIN CITY PRESENTS/SEPTEMBER 2016

This month’s Sin City Shredder is long overdue! Calling Sin City home since 2004 Jason Constantine is both seriously fierce and diverse. This is a guy that starts playing guitar and just blows you face off. He's not just good. He's one of the best in the business... not pretentious... Probably wouldn't even stand out in a crowd to those that do not know him but his skill as a guitar player are without question exception. He can Shred! He can kick back and play blues, or blow your head off with anything from Yngwie to Randy Rhoads and never skip a lick! We won't keep you in suspense any longer!

Let's start from the beginning...What were some of the contributing factors that prompted your move to Las Vegas?

My move to Vegas was prompted by following a girl. But on the flip side of that I also knew it was close enough to L.A. Without actually being in L.A. I lived in L.A. for about 6 months and hated every second of it.

How would you describe your playing style?

Well I can tell you everyone in town defines me a shredder (laughs), but I tend to think of my playing to be more melody and feel based. Some of my biggest influences are guys like The 3 Kings, Gary Moore, and Warren Demartini. Those guys all had amazing feel, tone and vibrato. I think my sense of melody comes from Satriani and Eric Johnson. They are also 2 major influences.

Are you self-taught or do you have an educational background in music?

I never took formal lessons. But I did learn a bunch from my father, and his friends when I was growing up. My old man was big in the NYC Jazz scene,. He would have guys like Joe Pass, Pat Metheney, and Larry Coryell who just passed away recently, over to the house to jam and I would learn things from them.

Do you play any other instruments?

I play drums, keyboards, and bass guitar. I also sing.

Which artists do you admire now?

As stated earlier the 3 Kings, Gary Moore, Warren Demartini, in addition to that there are so many, the list is pretty much endless as I pick stuff up from everyone. Not even necessarily guitar players. But my top guys are Satch, Vai, Eric Johnson, Jake E Lee, Zakk Wylde, Dimebag, and George Lynch. More recently I have really been into Guthrie Govan, Dereck Trucks, and Scott Henderson.
