This month that bass is all about “Paulie Walnuts” from Smashing Alice, better known to those that love him as “Fucko”. He curses a lot and doesn’t think twice about flipping you off from the stage; in fact that’s become his trademark. Believe me when I say if you’re lucky enough to get the finger from Paulie from the stage it’s flown with love! Make no mistake this bassist is full of as much badassery as he is debauchery on stage.

I asked Paulie to share his story with us and no one tells his story better than him….

I was born a poor black child in NY….. I started playing guitar at 11 yrs old. I played in a few high school bands. One day my friends and I decided to do a Ramones tribute band but we had no Dee Dee. Being the team player that I am I said fuck it! I never picked up a guitar again! One might say I had found my calling. I think I was 19 at the time.

Unlike so many great musicians I don’t come from a family with a musical background, music is my own passion. Both of my children are very musically talented, I’d like to think I had a little something to do with that. My only regret is that my Dad never got to see me play; I think he would have liked seeing me on stage doing something I love.

I’ve been playing in cover bands for about twenty years now, bounced around the punk scene for years, spent a lot of that time on the New York/New Jersey scene. Over the years my playing style has evolved and playing metal is where my pocket is.

In 2008 I moved to Las Vegas, played in a few bands, nothing too serious, the turning point was answering a Craigslist Ad about five years ago. The band was horrible, I was ready to quit. Hung in a little while longer and looking back glad I did!! Eventually, another guy answered the Ad Todd showed up and we had immediate chemistry! Then came Brian… the rest is history we are the mighty “Smashing Alice!” The lineup has seen many changes; each one has made us stronger. Not saying anything bad about previous members, we have just grown and each change just makes us better. These guys are family! I love each of them and would take a bullet for any of them, well except for Todd maybe. (Lol)

I’m huge supporter of the local music scene. You’ll find my girl Nancy and I around town on any given night supporting a local band. You’ll always see me wearing a local band t-shirt onstage. Laundry permitting that is. I love Las Vegas and especially love the music scene here, the people, the venues the fans all have embraced me, maybe it’s just because I’m a funny muthafucka! Either way, I owe a lot to each and every one of you.

A few other things you might not know about this bass bad ass is that he is a huge animal lover. He has two rescue dogs that he absolutely loves to death. Not a big cat lover though. He likes a nice cold PBR and Roberto’s after a night of face melting bass riffs and he’s a United States Navy Veteran and he was a first responder on 9/11.
