will surely help her reach her goals that she has set. Megan hopes to bring more awareness to the disease of Alopecia, which affects more people than we realize along with an anti-bullying message. It can be devastating, especially for a young girl to have alopecia. Women find a lot of their self worth in their appearance. To have what some view as a flaw, that is so obvious, rips away confidence. As a child that experienced bullying because of her disease, Megan wants to grow the platform for anti-bullying. Megan believes that bringing awareness to this disease will help others be more understanding and compassionate and help eliminate bullying. We are often afraid of what we do not understand and shy away from others with visible differences like alopecia, and some are just plain cruel. Her hope is that others will be able to see the value in someone outside of their physical appearance. It is important to value yourself and others regardless of how they look or what their abilities, or lack thereof, are. Even in her skating career, Megan gets funny looks because of her appearance. I admit, I would not have guessed she was a figure skater at first glance. Tattoos and piercings don’t exactly say figure skater to me. Megan would also like to start a skating program for disabled people, affording them the opportunity to feel the satisfaction of accomplishment and worth that skating has brought to her life. She would like to help others know that they are more capable than society says.
