SENIORS
MOMENTS
by Don Crossley
We remember back in the 1950’s,
when going “uptown”, dress was an important part of being
in the public eye. No one went out “on the Town” in jeans
and casual shirt, or running shoes. Ladies always wore skirts,
nice blouses or dresses, and believe it or not, white gloves.
Shoes were shone and men usually wore a Sports Jacket
or Suit, white dress shirt and tie with tie clip, and generally
appeared well groomed. Hair was neatly combed or brushed,
women had “hair-dos”.

When we visit downtown in the 2000’s, we certainly see
how life has indeed become more casual.
Of course, in the “old days”, there was a mother at home
to remind you that your appearance was a reflection on the
family. Jeans were OK for picnics, fishing trips or the drive-
in – another story.
To say that casual – especially ripped jeans – were never
seen anywhere, is an understatement.
