OMNI FOOT & CHIROPRACTIC CLINIC We’re Looking After Your Health! How are your winter feet? Proper foot health is incredibly important for daily activities but it is often overlooked.  As feet are mostly hidden within socks, slippers and shoes, the ‘out of sight, out of mind’ mentality occurs. It is not until pain or problems begin that foot health is addressed.  Most complaints we hear about include ingrown nails, dry, cracked skin, blisters or fungus, and these can be avoided or resolved with early detection and prevention.  A good daily foot care routine helps to ensure your feet remain healthy. Start by assembling a foot care kit containing nail clippers, rubbing alcohol, nail file, lotion, and a non-breakable hand mirror. Having everything you need in one place makes it easier to follow this foot care routine every day: 1 2 Wash your feet in warm (not hot) water, using a mild soap. Don’t soak your feet for longer than 5 minutes, as this can dry out your skin. Dry your feet carefully using a cotton towel, especially between your toes. $ 35 Seniors Day Call us in Burlington or Milton for complete details. 3 4 5 6 7 8 Thoroughly check your feet and between your toes to make sure there are no cuts, cracks, unusual swelling, ingrown toe nails, red spots or blisters. Use a hand mirror to check the bottom of your feet. Clean cuts or scratches with mild soap and water, and cover with a dry dressing suitable for sensitive skin. If you can see and reach your toenails, trim them straight across and file any sharp edges with an emery board or nail file. Don’t cut the nails too short. Keep your skin soft and smooth by applying a thin coat of lotion to your heels and soles. Wipe off excess lotion that is not absorbed. Don’t put lotion between your toes, as the excessive moisture can promote infection. Wear fresh, clean socks and well-fitting shoes every day. Whenever possible, wear white socks, this way if you have a cut or sore, the drainage will be easy to see. Keep the blood flowing to your feet. Put your feet up when sitting. Wiggle your toes and move your ankles up and down for 5 minutes, two to three times a day. Don't cross your legs for long periods of time. And don't smoke! If you do have any concerns, they are best addressed sooner rather than later, so don’t hesitate to contact us at OMNI Foot for an appointment. If in doubt, ask us! We’re here to help!
