I t’s finally summer, and it’s time to pick my battles. This
summer’s rivals: The plastic bag, the plastic water bottle,
and the dreaded plastic straw. This last one I cannot
stand, and I give the evil eye to those who use it –
I mean, we don’t drink from glass pop bottles anymore,
so why do we even need straws at all, since they cause
irreparable damage to our earth?
The City of Vancouver banned straws, and I wish we
would too. It will have to happen soon enough, so why
not now? In the meantime, I started my own little
mastermind plan to reach out to every restaurant I visit
(which aren’t many, really) and hand out an invitation
to join in to #SkipTheStraw. You must check it out,
it’s on our “Raising Kids Naturally” website:
www.kidsnaturally.ca/StrawsSuck
My point is, it’s already mid-year and you have to ask
yourself: What have I accomplished already this year,
and what can I take on now to make a difference? We all
have our battles to fight, and although the plastic straw
may be a small one for me, I too have larger personal
demons to argue with... but picking your battles is
definitely the way to accomplish getting anything done.
For our Good Living Show this year we chose
September 7th as the special date, because by then all
the kids will have gone back to school, many cottages
will be closed, and because it’s such a beautiful time of
year. Be sure to save the date and join us for what will
be another great show!
Enjoy this summer and keep on writing to me, send me
your gardening photos, and do your part to join in our
community’s efforts... Make a difference!
