Frankincense E.O. for Arthritis
A 2008 study in India found that the active components
of the Boswellia tree bark – also known as Frankincense – has
powerful properties to help with the pain associated with
Arthritis.
In addition, and according to the American Arthritis
Foundation, Frankincense essential oil has strong anti-
inflammatory and analgesic properties, and may also help
prevent cartilage loss and inhibit the autoimmune process.
It may also be used to treat symptoms of ulcerative colitis
and Crohn’s disease.
Frankincense can be found in several concentrated forms,
including a therapeutic-grade oil, that can be massaged directly
onto painful areas of the skin. It’s said to be so powerful
that it is now comparable to NSAID (non-steroidal anti-
inflammatory drugs) pain relievers.
For proper use, it’s important to acquire a good-quality,
high-concentrate of the essential oil (many are diluted and
not of medicinal strength, but just used for their aroma), and
combine with a carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil, and
rubbed on the painful joint area several times per day.
Other essential oils beneficial for arthritis use include myrrh,
orange, peppermint, and lavender.•
HOW IS IT MADE?
Approximately three pounds of
lavender flowers are required to
produce just 15 ml of lavender
essential oil. To make a true
essential oil you have to distill the
lavender buds, capture the steam,
and condense the steam into a
liquid. This requires heat, pressure,
equipment, skill and patience.
