GARDEN TIPS + TRICKS
Matches for peppers
Plant a box of matches
near your pepper
plants, as they like the
sulfur and it will help
them grow strong!
Bleach your cut flowers
Add a few drops of regular
bleach to the water in order
to prevent bacteria growth
from forming in your vase. It
will keep stems from forming
mildew and make them
last longer.
Sweeter tomatoes
Grow sweeter tomatoes by
sprinkling the soil (not the plant)
with some baking soda, which
will counteract with the acidity
in the tomatoes, producing
sweeter ones. Yum!
Banana peels as rose fertilizer
Cut up a banana peel and bury it
1” under the base of a rosebush.
The peel’s potassium will feed
the plant and help it resist disease.
Epsom salt
as a fertilizer
Feed house plants
once per month:
Mix 2 Tablespoons
of epsom salt to
a gallon of water
and pour!
Save your egg shells
Keep a plastic container near the
stove, and crunch any egg shells in as
you use them. Then spread over your
garden containers, as the calcium will
help fertilize them. Works well against
raccoons, squirrels, and insects too!
Keep the water
Whenever you boil eggs or steam
vegetables, keep the water and use
it to water your plants once it’s
been cooled, for water as rich as
liquid fertilizer.
Rose propagation
Propagate roses by
cutting a stem off
and sticking it on
a large potato. Then
plant both of them,
and the potato will
keep the stem moist
and nourished as
it propagates.
