The last time I visited an advertising agency, the
thiry-something marketing manager openly said to
me: “Oh, a magazine for seniors. So, walkers, hearing
aids and porridge, right?” I felt immediately offended.

largest in the world, yet marketers “don’t believe it’s
worth it” to reach out to you online, even if to educate,
provide special discounts, or valuable information.

Today it seems asking questions means you are an idiot.
And if you are over 55 and asking a question, you are a
bigger idiot.
So please, when us old folks say “can you please explain,”
don’t talk down to us because we have laugh-lines around
our eyes and our chin sags.
I look at my mom’s photo when she was 58 and I
remember thinking she was so ‘old’. And although I’m
hopefully a little bit trimmer and I colour my hair and
wear not-so-aging clothes, I do know people, including
my daughters, think I’m ready to be put out to pasture.
I thank God I am healthy, I have had a well balanced
life, and I have enough sense of humour to say to myself,
”been there, done that” but one day with a bit of luck you
will be as old as me too. So be kind now, try to listen.
We are people too, and guess what? In my mind I am
still the skinny model I was at 18.•
