Eggs: Your Hair’s Best Friend!
Eggs are pretty much the perfect food, containing just about
every nutrient we need for good health. They are great for
breakfast, added in salads for lunch and dinner, they have been
shown to lower cholesterol, and are great for eye health… but
did you know you can wash your hair with an egg yolk?
Egg yolks make for an effective hair mask, and leaves your
hair shiny, strong, and healthy. Eggs contain a large amount
of protein, as well as fatty acids and vitamins that can deliver
added nutrients to the scalp and hair.
The Vitamin A in eggs improves the hair follicle’s ability to
produce natural moisture, and controls dandruff. The Vitamin
E in egg yolks protects your hair from UV rays, and their
Vitamin D content improves the texture and lustre of your hair.
Here’s How To Do It!

Crack an egg and separate the yolk and the whites (keep the whites for a
breakfast omelette!). Keeping the egg whites will cause them to ‘cook’ under
warm shower water, leaving bits of white in your hair.
Place the egg yolk in a mug and add 1/2 cup of lukewarm water, then mix
well with your fingers (double up for longer hair).
Wet hair and scalp well, then add the egg mixture a bit at a time, gently
massaging onto scalp and length of hair.
Don’t use your fingertips to scrub your scalp as this will cause your scalp to
over-produce sebum (oil), which will make your hair seem greasy next-day.
Leave on for 2-3 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.
Still Buying Microwaveable Popcorn?
Often considered a “health” food, microwave popcorn is filled with questionable
ingredients and should be skipped altogether. The bags are coated with non-stick
perfluorochemicals like PFOS and PFOA (Teflon), which the Cancer Society has linked
to cancer. Another concern is the fake butter flavouring compound called “diacetyl”,
linked to lung disease when inhaled in large quantities.
A better option is to pop a fresh batch of organic kernels in a stainless steel pot covered
with a lid, using a bit of coconut oil or real butter. Try it with a bit of sea salt and freshly
squeezed lime juice – delicious!
