AVOID A DISASTER

Retired high school teachers Frank and Bianca Bozzo certainly got schooled after hiring the wrong contractor to remodel their kitchen . Having now learned a hard lesson , they wish to share their experience in an effort to prevent this from happening to anyone else .
The Bozzo ’ s dream was to update their tired and worn-out kitchen by refinishing the existing dark oak cabinets , doors , and drawer fronts , to a brilliant white finish , update the kitchen ’ s old wiring , and brighten up a dark-red , beautifully crafted old world brick arch that surrounded their island : the focal point of the kitchen .
At first everything seemed perfect : the kitchen contractor showed them lots of photographs ( later determined to be fake ) of his past work and always had an immediate answer to all of their questions .
Once the work began it was very evident that the contractor – a “ husband and wife ” team , had no idea what they were doing , and had no dedication to the job at hand . Even their working hours were unprofessional , and they never worked for more than 4 continuous hours .
The Bozzo ’ s were promised that the red brick arches would be finished to a brilliant white , however after one coat of white paint , the original red colour was still showing through . When the Bozzo ’ s brought this to the attention of the contractor , they became very defensive saying that they “ would have to charge more money for a second coat of white paint .”
The contractor would not release the re-finished doors and drawer fronts until being paid in full . The Bozzo ’ s , now feeling scared and like hostages in their own home , paid all remaining monies owing in full … Then they received their cabinets : The most atrociously re-finished cabinet doors and drawer fronts you could ever imagine !
The other issue was the dangerous electrical work . The contractor had tampered with the kitchen ’ s wiring without an ESA ( Electrical Safety Authority ) permit and no inspections .
