Connectivity

- There will be no internet available for volunteers during the expedition.

- Phone signal will be very limited.

- In the case of an emergency, the Engagement Officer can connect to the internet in locations with sufficient mobile phone coverage.

- Other emergency communication equipment is also available (including the vessel’s own mobile phone, depending on coverage), VHF radio, and satellite phone).

Food

- All meals (breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner), snacks and drinks will be provided for the duration of the survey.

- Specific dietary requirements can be catered for if required, but please let us know ahead of the survey.

- Food is important on board Silurian as it maintains energy levels during long working days and can keep seasickness at bay.

- Volunteers are expected to assist with the cooking in the evening.

Bad weather

- During bad weather, alternative activities will be arranged, which may include shore leave to visit places of interest.

Team work and ground rules

- Your team consists of a small group of volunteers and project staff.

- Many people are not used to the close living conditions and/or physical demands common to field research. The ability to get along with others is of paramount importance.

- Your expedition will include group activities, such as meal preparation and clean-up, which require as much teamwork as the research itself.

- At the start of your project, staff will establish ground rules that will ensure a fun, safe, respectful, inclusive and productive expedition experience for the whole team.

- Be courteous and respectful of your teammates.

- The poor judgment of one team member, for example violating ground rules or possessing illegal drugs, could jeopardize the entire mission of this and future expeditions.
