The Hebrides is home to the smallest resident population of bottlenose dolphins in the UK! Photo ID studies have revealed the population is split into two subgroups.

White beaked dolphins is only found in the temperate and subarctic waters of the North Atlantic so are more regularly sighted in the northern

reaches of our study area

The number of porpoises in the Hebrides is the largest in Europe - our data helped create the largest Special Area of Conservation for the species in 2016.

The Hebrides is home to the West Coast Community - this tiny population of 2 individuals will go extinct in the coming years as a result of toxic PCB pollutants.
