{ lookingback } SIGNATURE RECEIVES THE 2014 REGIONAL THEATRE TONY AWARD This past June, Signature Theatre was honored with the 2014 Regional Theatre Tony Award. The 2013-14 Season marked the first time that New York City-based theatre companies were eligible to receive the significant award, which in the past has been awarded to non-profit theatres across the country in recognition of artistic excellence. “Signature Theatre is an integral part of the theater landscape,” said Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League. “The company offers audiences an unmatched explorative experience with the writer’s message across multiple bodies of work.“ At the June 8th ceremony at Radio City Music Hall, Founding Artistic Director James Houghton and Executive Director Erika Mallin accepted the Tony Award, thanking Signature’s alumni, trustees, staff, donors, and all 27 Playwrights-in-Residence. Houghton also acknowledged the over 380 New York-based companies that make up the Off- and Off-Off-Broadway theatre community. It was a thrilling night for every member of the Signature family, and a momentous acknowledgment of the tremendous work and dedication of the Signature community. 2 5 1
