DEPARTMENT PRINTING SA PROVIDES MEMBERS WITH TALENTED INTERNS As part of its new skills pool strategy, Printing SA is providing member companies with talented individuals who are eager to take up career opportunities in the signage, printing and packaging industry. Thanks to the FP&M SETA, Printing SA has been able to enrol 80 Learners in its brand new Foundational Learning Programme (FLP) in 2018. Graduate Learners have now successfully completed the following component courses: 1. Foundational Learning Competencies. 2. Introduction to Printing and Packaging Programme. 3. Work Readiness Programme. The last phase of the FLP consists of a three month internship during which learners will gain valuable workplace experience and exposure to the following areas: • Raw material stores. • Material handling and material handling equipment. • Printing or packaging processes. • Printing or packaging material surface requirements. • Post printing or packaging finishing processes. • Dispatch. • Sales, estimating and production planning. Learners are being made available to Printing SA member companies from 1 October to 14 December 2018 to serve their internships. Learners will be registered as interns with the FP&M SETA. Member companies will be able to claim B-BBEE Skills Development contribution points in two categories i.e. for the number of learners that are placed as interns, as well as points towards expenditure for paying stipends to the interns. In the new year, those FLP Graduate learners who have successfully completed their internships will be made available to member companies via Printing SA’s Regional Chambers for placement in pre-press, printing, print finishing or packaging occupations and trades. Printing SA has however made a commitment to place those learners who have not been taken up by industry in a technical theoretical field of high demand to further enhance their employment prospects. PRINTING SA ANNOUNCES NEW APPOINTMENTS Printing SA has announced a new appointment and promotions within its organisation, including Geoff Warren being appointed as operations director; the promotion of Jermaine Naicker from labour consultant to KZN regional chamber manager and the promotion of Susan Peterson from member consultant to acting Cape chamber manager. 1989, where he was the human resources director for Metal Box Liquid Packaging Division. Jermaine Naicker Geoff Warren Warren has decades of experience within the printing industry. The new role will make him responsible for the management of all national operations for Printing SA. Warren graduated from Rhodes University, and is registered as a human resources practitioner. His previous experience within the industry is immense, having been involved in the printing and packaging industry since www.SignAfrica.com | NOV/DEC 2018 ISSUE 98 completion, he was then promoted to human resources administrator and in the same year was again promoted to that of human resources business partner. 2016 began his introduction to the printing and packaging industry after joining Printing SA in the KZN chamber as membership services consultant. There he discovered an industry larger than he ever anticipated. Susan Petersen Having grown up and completed his school career in Phoenix, Naicker went on to graduate from Durban University of Technology in human resources management. After completion of the undergraduate programme, he then enrolled for a post graduate degree in the same field at DUT. His career began in the retail space, where he was employed through a graduate programme. Upon Peterson holds a certificate and diploma in business management as well as a bachelor of commerce human resources degree from Mancosa. Her previous employment history includes that of working at McCarthy Automotive Artisan Academy as technical training administration assistant, as well as being a national training and development administrator at Eqstra Holdings. 45
