EDITOR’S NOTE BY MEGGAN MCCARTHY, EDITOR Thank you to all the visitors - from a number of African countries - and exhibitors who made the 2018 Sign Africa and FESPA Africa expo in September such a success. The event had an increase in unique visitors and a range of educational features. Read more in our Expo Review. Our front cover article focuses on the new Kalideck Antalis Experience Centre, which has had a steady stream of customers, including printers and design agen- cies, visit the ultra-modern facility. The centre is a showcase for a wide array of solutions. Experience paper, software, advertising, signage, display and graphics, media and substrates, digital printing, packaging and void filling solutions. According to SignCraft, a laser is a great addition to a sign shop, as it is suitable for many aspects of production. You can make components for other signs: cutting out acrylic and HDU lettering and graphics, cutting out acrylic panels and engraving graphics that get applied to large signs. Things to consider when designing signage are location, colour, typography, contrast and material the sign will be printed on. Thinking about each of these factors in advance will help you avoid mistakes in the long run. Read about other considerations in How To Take Advantage Of Your Large Format Signs. Jimmy Lamb emphasises quality in sublimated products. When you sell a subli- mated product, you might be selling something that will help build a business, bring people together or memorialise someone who is no longer with their loved ones. When you compete in this kind of market, the print quality is one of the most crucial aspects of your business. In Tooling Materials For Vacuum Forming, Formech lists the pros and cons of various materials that beginners to vacuum forming or even ‘Grand Masters’ of the process will find useful. How do you become more relevant to your customers? John Tschohl discusses building a culture of customer service. Do not lose money because you did not invest in developing superior customer service skills for your entire workforce and building a customer driven organisation. Laurel Brunner states that recycling plastic is tricky because there are so many different types, with at least four used for bottles and bottles often having caps made from a different plastic which has to be processed separately. South Africa has some local associations that can help with recycling plastics. We wish you a happy festive season and a prosperous New Year. See you in 2019!
