Gill Cogan, chairman of EFI’s board noted, ‘In
conducting a comprehensive search for the next
CEO, the board had the opportunity to speak with
many highly skilled, strong leaders. Bill was our
first choice, as his experience in managing a global
manufacturing organisation, track record in execu-
tion and leadership style most closely matched the
characteristics we sought to successfully lead EFI in
its next stage of growth, building on the legacy that
Gecht established over the last 20 years. I would
like to once again convey the board’s gratitude to
him for his outstanding leadership, overseeing the
transformation of EFI and driving the company’s
rapid growth to over some R14.8 billion ($1 billion)
in annual revenues.’
‘I am honoured and humbled to join the EFI team,’
said Muir. ‘I have developed a deep admiration for
the culture of courageous innovation, technical
leadership and customer care, and I look forward to
leading our exceptional team as we work tirelessly
to delight our customers and create shareholder
value.’

DRYTAC DEMONSTRATES
PRODUCTS AND PRESENTS
EDUCATIONAL SEMINAR
Drytac demonstrated its extensive range of
self-adhesive materials, as well as presented an
educational seminar regarding retail signage ideas
and applications at the SGIA Expo.
Custom Color. At the start of the year, the company
underwent a major upgrade in fabric soft signage
production, with a pair of EFI VUTEk FabriVU 340
aqueous dye-sublimation printers. The printers
have allowed Custom Color to keep up with
surging demand for silicone edge graphics for retail
signage and display, exhibition signage and other
applications.
The new 320cm (126 inch) wide, high-volume press
offers the consistent, high-volume, high-definition
imaging needed for the company’s core business.
With the addition of the HS125 Pro, Custom Color
Corp. replaced an older, dedicated flatbed printer.
Mike Lecus, Custom Color’s COO said, ‘We continue
to invest in next level technologies to provide our
clients with the highest-quality products on time
and on budget.’
Printing at speeds up to 125 boards per hour, the
VUTEk press has eight channels, including two with
white ink, and delivers premium-quality, greyscale
imaging on a broad range of flexible and rigid
substrates up to 5cm (2 inches) thick. ‘The HS125
Pro increases our capacity three to four times on
UV-printed work,’ said Lecus.
The newly installed hybrid printer is also doing
double-duty on roll-to-roll goods. The new press
is just the latest investment in EFI technology at
SwissQprint has announced the 1000th installation
of its large format printer. JPC Labo of Marly,
France, took delivery of the 1000th swissQprint
large format printer. This Nyala LED has injected
new impetus into the business, with significant
productivity increases and an expanded range of
services.
‘Nyala LED needs just one day for work that used to
take a whole week with our old flatbed printer,’ said
Franck Dallefrate, JPC Labo owner and CEO. ‘Now
we have the capabilities to generate and process
the volume that a printer of this sort can handle.’
A presentation at sQp Impression UV, swissQprint’s
partner in France, confirmed what Dallefrate
already knew, ‘Other suppliers wanted to sell
me three different machines to perform all the
functions that one single Nyala LED can handle on
its own.’ He mentioned pure flatbed printing, high-
precision roll printing and – most important for him
– finishing with effect varnish.
JPC Labo originally started out as a supplier of
photographic services, but now the firm views
itself as an image and print provider. Development
of photos still accounts for 30 per cent of the
business, because the customer base still includes
many photographers – who, together with artists,
are now taking full advantage of the diverse range
of special options offered by the Nyala LED. Varnish
