Sid's Opened Lid - Reincarnated Issue 07: March Madness Creates Snow and Rain | Page 3

Recently I watched a fan-made parody of Naruto Shippuden that focuses on Rock Lee and a countless number of skits him and his team perform. In one of these episodes they come across the famed Deidara and Sasori of the Akatsuki, for those of you not familiar with the show, they are a group of rogue ninjas for hire with a beastly alternative goal. These two members are known for their artistic skills that translate to deadly techniques. Sasori, who creates life size puppets he controls, asks Lee, what does he think art is. Of course the loud-mouthed Deidara with a mouth on each of his hands, as if one isn't already enough for the blabbering teenager, can't help but interrupt with his coined phrase, "Art is an explosion!" Lee doesn't agree of course, and replies with his idea of art being a good physique, thick bushy eyebrows, and a haircut that resembles Bruce Lee's. Although silly, coming from a cartoon of a "cartoon" (some people get upset when you call anime cartoons, when essentially that's what it is), the short scene made me re-realize although art is universal and can be found in anything, just like beauty, what art actually consists of lies in the eyes of the beholder. For this reason for this months issue we compiled a group of artists and musicians and asked them how would they describe art in one word. In the following pages you will see the results of our one question interview.
