4-Steps to Making YOU Essential Again
By: Shelita Winfield, Your Soul Impact Strategist
In the 1990’s and early 2000’s I lived in Richmond, Virginia. Richmond
is an eclectic and historic city. Church Hill, an older section of the city,
was plagued with crime, drugs and violence during this time. As a
social worker and in-home therapist, I worked with families who lived
in the area. I witnessed firsthand, the effects of such activity on the
community.
Yet, in the mid-nineties, the Church Hill area began to turn around.
Due to the history, and available land, the residents of Church Hill were
poised to experience a turnaround. Urban revitalization was slowly
coming to the area.
Revitalization combines several words – re – again; vital – essential;
ization – doing or making something. The definition of revitalization is
to make something essential again.
The beauty of revitalization means anything that lost its nature or
value becomes essential again. Church Hill, for instance was a historic,
land rich area made essential again.
However, to revitalize something, you must first have considered it
essential. In your case, it might be another person, a relationship or
even yourself.
