I grew up in a sheltered community of religious enthusiasts . There was no room for error . Yet , by the time I was four years old , my best friend taught me all I needed to know about sex via Barbie dolls . However , we left Jehovah ’ s Witnesses faith when I was eleven .
In my case , the damage had already been done . I began to experience freedom . Everything was great in the beginning . I was still on the honor roll . I won the lead in my first Christmas play . Then , I found a new set of friends .
One day one of my friends from school asked if I wanted to meet someone . He was 21 years old and a regular fixture at the local high school . He would visit me every day before and after school . The changes were subtle . I displayed anger at home , and there was no more playing Barbie for me .
