Relationships: 4-Steps to Overcome a Painful Past
By: Michael Delaney, Jr.
Our childhood experiences shape our adult
relationships. Whether good or bad, we draw from our
past to shape our relationships as adults. Like some, I
had a painful past. I suppressed my pain until infidelity
crept into my marriage. It forced me to reexamine
myself. I remembered the tough upbringing I endured.
My mother and sister were drug addicted prostitutes.
My brother, also an addict, was in always in jail.
“I learned how to use
prayer and spiritual
warfare to combat
promiscuity.”
I saw things a 6-year old should never see. I developed
a convoluted view of life because of my unstable home.
I lost my innocence and gained sexual desires. I was
active by age 7. I didn’t understand how to view myself
or other children in a non-sexual way.
