SHIFT Jillian Clarke Title: Founder and CEO, My Successful Future Website: 1. What were the biggest mistakes you made early on? JC: In the beginning, I spent 12-15 hours every single day working on developing my business. I did not adhere or develop a work schedule and my health became secondary. Work/ life balance did not exist which eventually led me straight into exhaustion. What I realized after this point was that I did not become an entrepreneur to detract from my quality of life. I became an entrepreneur to have the flexibility to spend more time with my family and doing the things that I love to do. Once I adopted this mindset, I became more efficient with my time during working hours. I will always be a strong advocate for work/life balance as I feel self care is what creates overall happiness and ultimately success! 2. What's the change that made the biggest impact on your business? JC: The change that made the biggest impact on my business was hiring my first business coach. She helped me to understand all the necessary components of online business and was there to direct me when I felt lost. She also eliminated the isolation that we can sometimes feel as entrepreneurs and even more so as online entrepreneurs. 3. What tips would you recommend for new entrepreneurs? JC: Every once in a while you will hit a barrier that is challenging to overcome alone. I would recommend to a new entrepreneur that if you feel stuck at any point, do not hesitate to reach out and ask for help immediately. Trying to solve a problem on your own is not always the best solution -- two minds are better than one. I would also recommend that you find a mentor that will support you in your journey. Your mentor will not only be able to provide you with excellent insight, they will also be able to guide you through difficult situations. 28
