In the beginning...

The College opened in 1957. There were ninety seven students in Years 7 to 10. The original building occupied a site about half the size of the present area. The Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, who came from Perth, brought with them many of the traditions of their highly regarded college in that state. Among these were the names of the sports houses - Bede, Paul, Xavier and Trinity. The college crest has the letters V and K, representing Virtue and Knoweldge, and the college motto "Semper Superne Nitens" - Always Upwards Strive - continues to inspire and encourage each new generation of students.

On 12 February 1957 the pupils of our new secondary school, Sacred Heart Girls' College, assembled in the college hall, where, after a beautiful address, Rev. Father Coyne consecrated them to the Sacred Heart, having previously blessed the school.
