In 1953 it was decided that a college for secondary pupils should be built in the suburb of Oakleigh. It was to be the first of its kind for Catholic girls in the east of Melbourne. Through the efforts of the parish priest, Rev Father Coyne, a property on the corner of Warrigal and Kangaroo Roads was purchased.

The new school would cost around $80,000. In the early 1950s this was a considerable sum of money. The Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions were to run the new school, but no bank was willing to loan them this amount. Fr Coyne and the people of the parish set to work to raise the money. The architect, Mr Romberg (of Grounds, Romberg and Boyd), proved to be a loyal and understanding friend throughout the course of the construction of the building.

On September 18th the foundation stone of our new secondary school was blessed and laid by His Grace, Archbishop Mannix.
