Sherman ISD Building Bearcats Magazine Dec/Jan 2017-18 | Page 7

Sherman ISD students are building robots , designing award-winning clothes , taking college classes , bringing home state and national fine arts and athletic awards , and raising animals . They weld , figure out cost estimates on building bridges , publish samples of their best written work , earn county-wide spelling honors , construct houses for Habitat for Humanity , and win academic UIL championships . Our graduates are in college , run businesses , are doctors , elected officials , and members of the military . They give back to their community , work hard in school , mentor their younger counterparts , and are proud to be Bearcats .
This month , I encourage you travel with us and experience the education Sherman students receive in our schools . From building a strong foundation in literacy , math , and science while in elementary , to providing a wide array of career and college options to students beginning in middle school , Sherman schools offer our students the trip of a lifetime .
Also , take note that the district is in the beginning stages of fulfilling a $ 176 million bond referendum passed by voters in November 2017 . Sherman ISD will build a new Sherman High School , convert the current Sherman HS to a second middle school campus , and reconfigure grade levels to K-5 , 6-8 , and 9-12 while upgrading technology infrastructure and security at all campus facilities . You can read about our bond plans in this edition as well .
Remember , whether it ’ s college or career , extra and co-curricular activities , or social connections that shape and develop maturity , we ’ re # BuildingBearcats . Whether it ’ s building an actual school building to provide all of these things and more , we ’ re # BuildingBearcats .
Sincerely , Dr . David Hicks
Superintendent
