Center lobby this spring , the biggest mass global action to end violence against women and girls .
More than 100 members of the Shenandoah community , including President Tracy Fitzsimmons and several members of the board of trustees , participated in a flash mob as part of the global One Billion Rising movement this spring . Using dance to raise awareness of the issues of violence against women , participants took the Brandt Student Center by storm , joining flash mob events worldwide .
Twenty students from Shenandoah ’ s JustFaith Christian Leadership Program attended the Justice Conference in Philadelphia , Pa ., a two-day annual event to promote dialogue around justice-related issues such as human trafficking , slavery , poverty , HIV / AIDS and human rights . This year ’ s conference speakers included President and CEO of International Justice Mission Gary Haugen ; civil rights activist Dr . John Perkins ; President and CEO of World Relief Stephan Bauman ; Shane
Claiborne , best-selling author of “ Jesus for President ” and “ Irresistible Revolution ” and pastor Eugene Cho , who spoke about the connection between faith and justice .
Shenandoah University was cited in “ An Open Letter to College and University Leaders : College Completion Must Be Our Priority ,” a publication released by the National Commission on Higher Education Attainment ( NCHEA ). Shenandoah was praised on pages 12 – 13 for its efforts to “... streamline administrative procedures , making it easier for students to focus on academic and cultural pursuits …” and for creating a student-centered culture that helps improve student engagement and retention .
