Sewell Elementary, a school highlighted for significantly increasing student achievement in both reading and math, raising student proficiency rates from 30 to 90 percent. Matt Semler ’02 was named director of elementary education for Washington County Public Schools in Maryland in July. Prior to this position, Semler was principal at Winter Street Elementary School in Hagerstown, Md., for seven years. He was also an assistant principal for one year at Bester Elementary and taught for seven years in Loudoun County, Va. Travis Stoner ’02, ’05 opened his own practice in 2012 as director and operator of Fusion Physical Therapy and Cardiac Rehabilitation. In April 2011, he became certified in orthopedic manual therapy and is a Fellow in Training with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT). Stephanie McLean ’04, ’06 is a group sales associate with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. She also serves as assistant house manager and bookings assistant for the Shakespeare Theatre Company. 2004 Chad Brashears ’04 is assistant coach for Shenandoah’s men’s basketball team for the 20132014 season. Prior to this position, Brashears served as assistant coach at Hagerstown Community College. He began his duties in May. Megan Bureau ’04 is an assistant professor and associate director of clinical education in the Division of Physical Therapy at Shenandoah’s Northern Virginia campus. John Hunt ’04 is an assistant professor in the Division of Physical Therapy at Shenandoah’s Winchester campus. Byron Jones ’04, associate professor of music and voice at Christi Baker Keeler ’05 was married in 2011 and welcomed her first child, a son, in 2012. Her family lives in League City, Texas. Shannon Ferguson Peterson ’05 is a payroll tax associate at Capital One in Glen Allen, Va. She and her husband, Seth, welcomed a baby girl, Brinley Paige, in February. Matt Moffitt ’04 served as technical director and shop manager for the 2013 season of Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre. 2003 David ’03 and Elizabeth Bright ’03 Morgan welcomed their first child, Max Bright Morgan, in March. The couple plays trumpet and tuba in the Tucson Symphony Orchestra in Tucson, Ariz. at the May awards ceremony at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS). This award acknowledged his efforts in the areas of teaching, scholarship and service. Horton has served as assistant professor of pharmacy practice at MCPHS since 2006. Nicholas Nerangis ’04 won best actor at the World Music and Independent Film Festival held in Washington, D.C., in August. Nerangis won for his leading role in the film, “A Little Off the Top,” in which he portrayed a respected community businessman who goes insane. Kimberly Ward ’06-NG played the roles of Mona and Roxie Hart in the production of “Chicago,” Mitzi in the production of “Crazy for You” and the Ugly Duckling in the production of “Shrek the Musical” in the 2013 season of Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre. Janelle Heydt Phillips ’05 and her husband, Nathan, welcomed their daughter, Nora Catherine, into the world May 6 (which is also Janelle’s birthday). She was 8 pounds, 8 ounces and 22 inches long. The family resides in Chambersburg, Pa. Phillips is the pharmacy manager at Target in Chambersburg. Johanna Beugring ’06 welcomed a daughter, Anna, in January. Melissa Carroll ’06 joined the full-time faculty at Shenandoah’s School of Health Professions as an assistant professor of Respiratory Care. 2005 Greg Corder ’06 received state and national recognition in August. Corder is the coordinator and director of the Thomas Harrison Middle School STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Explorations Academy in Harrisonburg, Va. The school was named the 2013 top middle school program in the state by the Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association. As a result of the win, the program will receive a Program Excellence award from the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association in March 2014. These awards are typically dominated by Northern Virginia, and this was only the program’s first year! Melissa Hansen ’05, ’07 is the choral director at William Monroe High School, the music teacher at Greene County Primary School and the music director at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Stanardsville, Va. In 2012, she released an extended play (EP) of her original songs. Evan Horton ’05 was named the School of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Practice Academic of the Year 2007 2006 Mark Pennypacker ’04 presented the Shenandoah University Division of Athletic Training Outstanding Graduate Award to Amanda Johnston ’12, ’13 in May. Jennifer Strozier Delfin ’05, assistant director of the Goddard Greene School in Ashburn, Va., hired Theresa Heim ’12 as the school’s assistant director. Galen Leitzel ’06 retired from the public schools of Pennsylvania after 36 years of service. He was named music caption chair for the National Judges Association, which is linked to the Tournament of Bands, a competitive musical arts organization with more than 300 member schools in seven MidAtlantic states. Leitzel is responsible for the assignment, supervision and training of all music adjudicators for the National Judges Association. Additionally, Leitzel accepted an adjunct position with West Chester University of Pennsylvania, supervising music student teachers. He also continues his work as the musical director of the Lyric Band of Hanover, an adult community band.
