Leslie Williamson contributing writer BE E S A RE BU ZZ ING , A ND TH E E V IDENCE OF THE END OF WINTER IS HERE. Mother Earth begins to put on display all the things that were put on hold within her because winter staked its claim. It’s something about spring that empowers us to come out of our comfort zones and try new things. During this season, we seem to become more motivated to do our annual cleaning My Friend, Spring and household projects we’ve put off during the rest of the year. Renovations and building projects take off in full speed, and our creative juices start flowing when it’s spring. If you’re like me, I’m ready to come out of the grays and blacks and blues and snuggle up to some oranges and pinks and apple greens. Now I promise you, you won’t find my hair that color, but I don’t mind my clothes or shoes or jewelry in one or more of those wonderful, vibrant shades. Spring is much like a dear friend that comes along to encourage you after months of adverse life events. It gives you new perspectives and hope for change in a new season. Unlike the subtle transition from spring to summer, the beginning of spring brings about a grand announcement of its arrival. Out of the dreary, dark, and chilly winter, blooms burst forth while bright, fluffy clouds decorate beautiful, azure-blue skies. Spring’s warm embrace gives us the assurance that the days to come will be bearable and something to which to look forward. Likewise, a warm hug from a dedicated friend also should encourage us and give us the courage to press on another day. I have friends who I don’t get to see in person very often, but the minute we have the opportunity, we pick up where we left off, and it’s just like old times. Spring comes around once a year, and each time, it’s like greeting an old friend who understands exactly what I need. Spring knows that we need to feel a warm breeze, gaze at the flowers that could hardly wait to bloom, and hear birds having their chirping conversations asking each other, “What did you do for the winter?” It’s breathtaking sometimes just to look outside and take in all that spring has to offer. Come to think of it, spring is a good friend that never lets us down. 126 APRIL 2016 SHEMAGAZINE.COM
