The sedimentary concrete wall was created by Shaw & Sons to artistically replicate the look of a natural, stratified crosscut of the
Earth’s geology. The sedimentary concrete wall incorporates similar forming technique as traditional cast-in-place concrete walls with
formwork on both sides of the wall structure. The visual appearance of the sedimentary concrete wall is created by layering integral
concrete within this formwork and layering a blend of various colors, pigments and natural materials such as stone, silica, carbide,
mica, and seashells. The final step includes the application of concrete stains that further articulate the desired esthetic look. Shaw &
Sons’ sedimentary concrete walls are protected under four U.S. patents.
