Race ReportJune 14th 2014 Gucun Park Park Race Series nos 2 - Gucun Park June 14th 2014 T he 2nd races in the Shanghai Running park race series was recently held at Gucun Park. There was another good turnout to contest the junior under 13 and under 16 – 5 km race and also the adult 5km, 10km and half marathon races in the series. Weather conditions were hot and humid, with bright sunshine, clear skies and no rain to be seen. The programme of races started early to avoid the mid day heat and the first race to start was the Half Marathon at 9.00am followed the school race and lastly the 5km and 10km adult races started simultaneously. All the runners were encouraged to take part in the warm up given by Audrey Gordon. The junior races also incorporated a school team point’s race with the first 2 boys and first 2 girls from each team, scoring points for their respective teams, based on their finishing positions. This was once again well supported by Shanghai United International School whose Hongqiao campus won the under 13 team race, with their Gubei campus winning the under 16 team race. School 5km Race The boys under 13 race was won by Kim Molgaard (SUIS-Hongqiao) in a fine time of 24:44; Daniel Barta (Concordia) was 2nd in a time of 25:36, with Gogo Zhao (SUIS-Hongqiao) finishing third in a time of 26:01. The girls under 16 race was won by Shana Lee in a time of 33:04 and 2nd was Sherry Liu in 42:18, with both scoring for the winning team from SUIS Gubei. The competition was fiercer in the boys under 16 race with Alexander Reichart (WISS) heading the field in an impressive time of 21:46; he was followed by Leevi Kauri (SSIS) again running admirably in a time of 23:06; with Bo Wen Li finished in a fine 3rd place in 23:25. The Japanese Taeko drumming band were again in attendance to start proceedings with their vigorous drum beats, which they performed throughout to beat out a rhythm for the runners. This again was very popular amongst the runners. The girls under 13 individual race was 6 won once again by Lydia Kauri from Shanghai Singapore International School in an impressive time of 25:21 beating all but 1 of the boys in the same age group. She was closely followed by Xixi Lei (SUIS – Gubei) in a time of 26:04 with Lilu Su (SUIS-Hongqiao) 3rd in 32:40. © Shanghai Running 2014
