Runner of the Quarter Lydia Kauri By Mike Morris your success down to? I really like it that we always run in gardens with different and fun routes that aren’t only on the road. I run twice a week. On Sundays I run 10km and on Wednesdays I run 5km. What are your current running goals? My current running goal is to beat my mother and I’m always trying to beat my old record. What has been your best running experience? Runner of the Quarter – Lydia Kauri How long have you been living in China? I have lived in China for almost eight years. How long have you been running and why did you start running? I’ve been running for quite a few years now, and it all started when my brother and I thought it was unfair that our parents could go to more vacations than us, so our father let us come with them if we ran the marathons there. As you can see, we made a deal and now I’m a pretty good runner for my age. What do you love most about running? I love the great feeling I get in the end of each run. You’ve had excellent performances in the Shanghai Running events, consistently winning the junior girls races and beating most of the junior boys. What do you put 10 about racing in a 1/2. What do you love most about running? Being out of doors, new trails, energy, do it anywhere, any season (yes, even in Canada). What has been your best running experience since moving to China? Other than getting on the train in time in Lanzhou, the Nash Hash in Shanghai 2013 was the best. What do you like best about the Shanghai Running Events? How often do you run each week? Would you recommend the Shanghai Running events to other young runners? Of course! I think it would be a great experience for everyone to join a fun run that includes running in beautiful gardens with friends. How do you think Shanghai Running could further enhance running in Shanghai / Suzhou? Continue making these great events and we’ll all be happy! What has been your best running experience whilst living in China? My best running experience was the hash. My hash name is Lady Kakka, because it sounds like Lady Gaga, but it means lady poo. The Hanoi hash group agreed on it together. Whilst living in China what has been your favourite race and why? My favourite race was when I ran the Suzhou Marathon 5km and I got 3rd place in the women’s category. You live in Suzhou, do you have a favourite place to run in Suzhou?
