03 Annual Report for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 2016 One Water We are widely recognized as a national leader for excellent service and stewardship. By embracing innovation, we will reimagine our use of water in all phases of the water cycle. We are implementing projects that utilize local and alternative water supplies. This is a shift from thinking about how to manage “nuisance” water to thinking about all water within the urban water cycle as “one water.” We are grateful to our customers for their commitment to conservation during the historic drought. Whether we have a wet or dry year, our customers understand that we must always use water wisely. As water supplies become more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, we continue to diversify our supply through our Local Water Program, ensuring the right water for the right use. Our San Francisco Groundwater Supply Project is nearing completion. This will add up to 4 million gallons per day of local, sustainable groundwater to our supply beginning in the first quarter of 2017. In addition to cultivating local water supplies, we are also moving forward with Recycled Water projects to irrigate our parks and golf courses in the City. Water is too precious a resource to use only once. Through our Water System Improvement Program (WSIP), one of the largest infrastructure programs in the nation, we have invested $4.8 billion into strengthening our Hetch Hetchy Regional Water system. Completion of several ongoing large regional construction projects this past year has created a seismically robust water lifeline for the Bay Area. The WSIP has enhanced our ability to provide high-quality, reliable drinking water to our customers, even after a major earthquake and during an extended drought period.
