SFPUC - Annual Reports The Future Is Now | Page 11

HBOR/ MMUNITY We operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to provide our customers with high-quality, effi cient, and reliable water, power, and wastewater services. We are committed to being good neighbors to our communities and good stewards of the resources entrusted to our care. Every day, we engage with our neighbors to provide timely, transparent communications and build strong partnerships. We work together with communities impacted by our operations by supporting local hiring, providing job training, and creating opportunities and access to educational and community resources. Our Project Pull, SSIP CityWorks, and Project Learning Grants programs provide approximately 1,300 students and early career professionals with internships, apprenticeships, and work experience opportunities annually. We are committed to our next generation workforce and improving our recruitment processes to retain the best, advancing our culture of high performance to consistently deliver high- quality services. Since April 2016, College Hill Learning Garden provided over 300 students hands-on exposure to healthy food cultivation and sustainable living practices. The garden demonstrates green infrastructure on a microscale so tomorrow’s environmental stewards can learn about our system and how to take care of it now and in the future. With over fi ve years of planning with the Crocker Amazon community, we are in the fi nals stages of transforming underutilized land into a community farm. The community farm will support the health and wellness of residents while teaching water conservation and sustainable food practices.
