YOUR DOLLARS
AT WORK ON
WATER
Strong and reliable infrastructure is
what keeps our services running
and the backbone of a healthy
economy. This year we replaced
over 11 miles of water pipelines in
San Francisco. We know it’s an
inconvenience when we tear up
streets and temporarily reduce
parking. Thank you for your patience
and support while our crews work to
ensure your tap keeps delivering
some of the best water in the country.
Water System Highlights:
• The Bay Tunnel and the New
Irvington Tunnel: these new
facilities help increase the seismic
reliability of the Hetch Hetchy
Regional Water System and were
brought into service this year.
• Harry Tracy Water Treatment
Plant: this upgraded plant can
now sustain treatment of 140 million
gallons of water per day even after
a major earthquake on the nearby
San Andreas Fault.
• Emergency Firefighting Water
Supply System: 16 new cisterns
were completed this year, adding
over 1,200,000 gallons of additional
firefighting water supply. Seismic
and operation upgrades were
completed on our firefighting
system water tanks and Twin
Peaks reservoir.
