09 | 10 Annual Report for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 2015 SEWER: YOU CAN’T LIVE A DAY WITHOUT ME We work to protect your health and our environment by investing in cutting edge wastewater management technologies. Not everyone thinks about what happens after we flush the toilet, but it’s our core business. Our wastewater treatment plants are on the job every day. Our City couldn’t function without our sewer services. Sewer Services Highlights: The Sewer System Improvement Program (SSIP) will keep our operations running smoothly, and help us to prepare for the impacts of climate change on our system. • Upgrades and improvements at SEP, such as SSIP’s flagship project, the Biosolids Digesters Replacement project, will keep our services seismically reliable. • This year we completed construction on the North Shore to Channel Force Main, a critical sewer pipeline that transports wastewater to our Southeast Treatment Plant (SEP), and serves approximately 350,000 people in the City. • New green infrastructure installations help improve the operating efficiency of our sewer system by diverting stormwater away from the sewer. They also calm traffic, restore natural habitats and help beautify neighborhoods. PLAN, PREPARE AND PROTECT! We know there hasn’t been enough rain. But when it does rain, it pours. Prepare your property for intense rain and consider applying for a Floodwater Grant. You can also help by keeping your local catch basins clear of debris, or reporting clogged catch basins to 311.
