// CULTURAL & TOURISM ENVIRONMENT
Propelling visitors and locals alike, South Florida is home to a plethora
of world class cultural venues and events.
The PEREZ ART MUSEUM, the newest of many art museums in the area,
opened in 2013 and saw more than 300,000 visitors in the first year. The
museum will be joined by the PATRICIA FROST MUSEUM OF SCIENCE in
2015 to create a Museum Park.
Many recurring annual events that attract international attention are
based out of Miami. ART BASEL, THE SOUTH FLORIDA FOOD AND WINE
FESTIVAL and THE MIAMI AND FORT LAUDERDALE INTERNATIONAL
BOAT SHOW bring in over 340,000 people in combined attendance each
year.
Other major attractors to the area are the major performing arts centers,
BROWARD CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, KRAVIS CENTER
and the ADRIENNE ARSHT CENTER. These world class-facilities bring in
a mix of ongoing off-Broadway performances, operas, and concerts.
In addition to art and culture, South Florida attracts an array of sporting
events. The region has hosted ten Super Bowl games—the most of
any region in the country—and is one of only 12 metros in the country
to be home to all four major sports leagues. In addition, the well-known
CADILLAC CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF TOURNAMENT and MIAMI OPEN
TENNIS TOURNAMENT presented by Itaú (formerly Sony Open) are both
hosted in Miami.
In 2014, the MIAMI OPEN HAD OVER 326,000 ATTENDEES during the
12-day event and has been named the ATP World Tour Masters 1000
tournament of the year six times.
The combination provided by the local climate, beaches, and culture
have helped South Florida to become and grow as a major hot spot for
tourism. With a strong foundation in place and continuing development
underway, the area should continue to be highly desirable for locals
and tourists alike.
