3D Sharks,

Sea Turtles

and Frogs…

Oh my!

An Interview with Christine Shepard, Co-Founder of Digital Life

What is Digital Life?

Digital Life is a new non-profit initiative that aims to preserve the heritage of life on Earth through creating and sharing high-quality 3D models of living organisms. In doing so, we will be spurring scientific discovery, supporting wildlife conservation and offering interactive educational opportunities. Our program is based at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and is partnering with field biologists, zoos, and NGOs to ethically gain access to a wide array of animals for 3D scanning, including numerous endangered species.

Where can we see the 3D models?

Our growing library of colorful, high-resolution 3D models are freely available for public viewing on our website: www.DigitalLife3D.com. It’s pretty amazing to be able to click and rotate a blacktip shark right on your computer screen, inspecting its fins, gills and sleek body shape. And for those with Virtual Reality headsets, you can actually use our Sketchfab web platform to fully immerse yourself with the models in 3D.
