Mariana Trench

The Earth hums to herself

A soliloquy

She’s been singing the notes from the beginning

Her own eulogy

For no one to hear

Save for the blind, rock-jawed creatures

That endure in her depths

A call to feed

The unison of slippery

Ancient creatures

Rising

And falling

From the depths

A calling for the supplicants to come worship

The carnivorous to dine

Onyx waters

Plastic

And brine.
