A NEW STEP TO CLIL ( Content and Language Integrated Learning )

Our Kindergarten English class started the year off with a boom , a volcano boom that is . We didn ’ t waste any time because it is a brand new year with a brand new agenda . There is so much to learn in such a short time . This year with our English maths , science , and social studies lessons , our brains are working at full speed .
In our social science lessons we discovered and learned about volcanoes , natural disasters , and other weather conditions . We were fascinated with the experiments we cooked up in class . Did you know that volcanoes erupt ? We saw first hand what a eruption looks like when we placed a mint into a bottle of diet coke , but we didn ’ t stop there . You can easily construct a tornado out of a plastic bottle and some water , and even generate a cloud in a jar . We didn ’ t know that we could have the rain in our hands and listen to it from a tube . It was amazing to put black eyed peas , rice and foil altogether in a paper towel tube to form the sound of the rain which we call ‘ rainmakers ’.
Plus , equals to , not equals to , greater than , and less than are all things math and when you add them up they equal our class . We are not only learning numbers but we are also matching , grouping , and adding them . We do this by using blocks , cubes , beads , and other objects . And now we know 5 + 6 = 11 and that 15 is greater than 5 . And there is only more to learn in the future .
We can ’ t stop now because learning is so much fun . Who knew songs , projects , games , and experiments would teach and develop us so much . I wonder what kindergarten English has in store for us next ?
