editorial:

These are my positive opinion on the compromise of 1850. The compromise of 1850, I think was a very intelligent and well thought-out plan. It allowed for the south to stay part of the union instead of them both causing havoc against each other. It also allowed us to get Texas as a territory for a third of the cost that they would have had to pay if this didn’t make this compromise. Henry Clay was the man who came up with this compromise and I could not think of anybody else who could do the job. He came to the people who mattered most and got the job done. These are the good things about the compromise of 1850.

These are my negative opinion on the compromise of 1850. The person who did the job Henry Clay was a very smart and loyal man, but he was almost all alone. This made this process took two years. I think it could have all been done in six months. The people mostly were all from the south. They reason I say this is because what if the northerners didn’t like the compromise. Other than these comments I thought it was very intelligently thought out. Keep up the good work.

These are the recommendations I have for your compromise. It shouldn’t have taken nearly as long as it did. It took more the two years just for one piece of paper. This should have been done and over with in eight or nine months maximum. Another recommendation is the only people you bothered to get opinions from is the northern president and important southern people. What if the northerners despised it and would not approve the compromise? Technically the president says what happens in the nations but you still need more information about what everybody has to say. Everything else was absolutely remarkable. Not only did you allow the purchase of Texas for a third of the cost, but made the Slave and Free states meet and equilibrium.
