I capitalised on another opportunity to accompany my best half on a business trip to Cusco in Peru. Visiting the land of the Incas where all potatoes originated from with more than 7000 varieties to choose from, I could not miss out on the opportunity to visit the Inca city of Machu Pitcchu and fly fish for trout at 4000m, possibly one of the highest places around the world to fish for trout without an oxygen mask.

The long-awaited day eventually dawned when Alvaro and Gabriel From PeruAnglers picked me up from the hotel. With blaring “Paint it Black” and the rest of the Rolling Stones we traversed some rockfalls and arduous rural switchback roads with shear 1000m drops to get to the secluded lake near the Scared Valley. The Quechua people are descendants of the Inca and looks after the lakes

which they re-stock every few years from their hatcheries. Rainbow Trout is farmed in Peru and can

be ordered in most restaurants together with the local delicatessen of roasted “cuy”(Guiney Pigs).
