Hosting numerous fish species, the dam has however become well known for its population of largemouth bass. The bass population has exploded in recent years, with large schools of fish congregating around shallow structure in the warmer months. These large numbers of fish and the increased competition for food make them easy targets on the fly. The fish are generally on the smaller side, however what the lack in size they make up for in ferocity and numbers. They eat almost any fly with hard aggressive takes and it is not uncommon to take 50 bass in a day’s fishing. There are of course some bigger fish in the dam, with my personal best on fly pushing the 4kg mark and numerous fish over the 4kg mark have been taken by the art lure guys. What makes the dam so appealing is the accessibility and ease of the fishing to be had. No special set-ups or fancy casts are needed, as long as you can get a decent line out close to some structure, you should have some success.
