Serious Fun @ JFFC May 2018 | Page 31

We left home around 7:30 am and got to the border after having a breakfast/ lunch at Fouriesburg at the "Di plaasstoep".

We got through the border pretty quick.

At Butha Butha we filled up with diesel ....R12.37 per litter ....SA R 14.78 We drove to Oxbow Lodge and because of the rain and the good price we booked in and got a room next to the river which included supper and breakfast for R1160. We went fishing up the river just outside the resort, but had no luck.

Day 1: 17th December

Up early for breakfast and off we went fishing, this time below Oxbow. We stopped at the new lodge they are building and walked down the river and across for about 1 km. There were some very promising pools and some fish were even spotted chasing the fly...but unfortunately the weather chased off the water.

From Oxbow lodge we drove up to Katse, past the Kao Mine. The old campsite there is now over populated with locals, and with the road getting long and the day coming to an end we stopped at Moteng Lodge. They wanted to charge us R840 per night and offered no camping facilities.

Thus we pushed on to Katse Village. By the time we got there it was 7 pm and raining cats and dogs. We settled for a self-catering house for R1100 and had lovely bully beef and paste for dinner. Day 2 done and dusted.

Day 2

Got up at 5:30 am and left to find fishing place. We went to look below the dam wall but changed plans later on and headed up towards Bokong till there was no more road to travel on....BUT...we did find Tourettes lodge and met with the guides....very friendly bunch and supplied us with lots of valuable info.

This had us traveling for 28 km in a westerly direction back to Katse dam. Back at Katse lodge we booked in and with all the rain and approaching hail storm we decided that a room would be better than a tent .

This is what you call camping with style...!

This was braai night....with wet wood and all.

People speak of 4 seasons in one day....more like in ONE HOUR.

After about the hour’s rain and hail we had clear skies and a lovely evening to sit outside and look at the sky with stars so bright.
