right before fronts during the months of November and December . Windy banks with dirty water are the best places to fish if there is moving water along that bank . The reason why those shorelines produce so well is that the fish love to be in high current areas that are dirty because dirty water is warmer so the fish feed aggressively in that scenario . Versamaxx cork with a live shrimp threaded on a 1 / 4 ounce jighead right in the stiff current is a fail proof way to catch trout and redfish during the winter . Pre-Spring and Pre-Fall are the times when I feel that predator species of fish are the most aggressive . This is the transitioning times not only for fish but for the weather . Temperature fluctuations of water and air are not as drastic but these fluctuations cause the bait shrimp and pogies to move inward during the pre-spring and outward during the pre-fall . I always fish choke areas where a bay or lake funnels down into a pass or major bayou . These areas allow the predator fish to sit in the current and gorge themselves during the transition . The best thing is to ride around and look for diving gulls , once you find them stop and enjoy the abundance of fish . Above are three seasons that I love to fish during the fishing year . Many of us anglers try to combine the calendar months of the year to fishing seasons but along the gulf coast this doesn ’ t always work . I consider pre-fall as the time of year that we have some cool fronts coming down but the water temps fluctuate fast from cool to hot still from the summer . This is normally the last part of September and October , Fall would be the months of November and December . Pre-Spring would be last part of February thru April and Spring would be only the month of May because normally our water temperatures increase fairly quickly this month so the transition is very fast . This principle of fishing seasons and migrations normally takes me about three hours to explain during one of my seminars .
