Marsh & Bayou’s Fishing Forecast Delacroix by Capt. Rykert O. Toledano, Jr. While Away Fishing Charters. (985) 778-1150 We all hear about transitional months as the summer changes to fall. September is often that month, given the prevailing weather pattern; however, it might be delayed until late September or early October. You’ll notice that your days shorten; and as that occurs, the fish begin their migration from the outside towards the interior marsh, and the shrimp from the inside outward. The problem is that pattern fluctuates dramatically due to weather conditions, and often the reports are it is difficult to find fish. A good indication for you is to be aware of where shrimpers are as the fish follow the bait. You will not find fish schooled the summer months and as a result, your fishing pattern will involve a large amount of moving from spot to spot. Birds will be a good indication where bait, and therefore fish are to be found. Look in some of the larger bays in the Delacroix area. Areas such as Lake Fortuna, Bay Lafourche, Oak River Bay, Lake Campo, and Grand Point Bay should be the most consistent producers. Redfish should be your friend and often salvation for a good trip in September. I always follow the formula of my good friend and great guide, Captain Ahab who taught me long ago that the bait and hook go on one end of the pole, and the reel is close to your hand. Once that rig is assembled, he and I can often be found fishing in the Lake Lery, Lake Fausan, Grand Lake, and Bay Shallow area. As always, feel free to call me at 985-777-1150 if I can offer any suggestions. Call me at (985) 778-1150 at any time for current suggestions and any help I can provide. Have a great time on the water and be safe. Captain Rykert O. Toledano, Jr. While Away Fishing Charters.
